How to Size Crane Outrigger Pads

Step-by-step procedure

1. Identify crane outrigger load. Find crane outrigger reaction force from load chart at maximum boom.
2. Find ground bearing capacity. Soil report or rule-of-thumb: hard packed 200kPa, soft soil 50kPa.
3. Calculate required area. Pad area = Outrigger load ÷ Ground capacity (m²).
4. Choose pad geometry. Square pads efficient; round for visibility.
